We at Callidus Trade were delighted to design and supply a fully bespoke power installation kit for Marc’s Overlander. This solution was created to provide reliable, off-grid power for life on the road, combining solar generation, smart battery storage and efficient power conversion.
Our Solution
We supplied a custom kit built precisely around Marc’s requirements, using high-quality Victron Energy components along with bespoke wiring, fusing and a full diagram. The kit included:
- 3 × 440 W monocrystalline solar panels to provide strong and reliable renewable power
- Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/45 charge controller for efficient solar charging
- 2 × 300 Ah Victron NG Smart Lithium batteries at 25.6 V to offer a large storage capacity in a compact form
- Victron Lynx Smart BMS 500 NG (M10) for safe battery management and system protection
- 2 × Victron Orion Tr 24/24-17 (400 W) non-isolated DC to DC chargers
- Victron Quattro II 24/5000/120-50/50 230 V inverter/charger to provide full 230 V capability along with shore power charging when available
- Victron stainless steel shore power inlet rated at 16 A, plus a 15 metre 16 A shore power lead
- Victron Cerbo GX smart monitoring and distribution system with a 5 inch touchscreen for complete oversight of system performance
- Victron DC distribution system
- 2 × Orion 24/12-70 A IP20 step down DC to DC converters
- 12 way blade fuse holder
- All associated DC cabling, lugs and fusing
- A bespoke wiring diagram along with UK-based technical support from our team
This combination of solar generation, high-capacity lithium storage and intelligent power conversion allows Marc to enjoy a reliable off-grid power setup that supports typical van life electrical needs, even when fully disconnected from the mains.
The lithium batteries provide a large amount of usable energy with excellent efficiency and long service life. The smart BMS and DC/AC conversion ensure safe and efficient power use with minimal energy loss. The Cerbo GX monitoring system gives Marc full visibility of his power generation, consumption and battery state at a glance, helping him manage and optimise his energy use while travelling. When shore power is available, the system integrates seamlessly so Marc gains the best of both worlds.
