Description

The VE.Bus BMS (Battery Management System) is an essential device designed to protect each individual cell of a Victron lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP) battery. LiFePO4 batteries require protection against overvoltage, undervoltage, and over-temperature, which can cause significant damage to the battery and reduce its lifespan.

One of the unique features of Victron LiFePO4 batteries is the integrated Balancing, Temperature, and Voltage control (BTV). The BTVs of several batteries can be daisy-chained, which simplifies the installation process.

The VE.Bus BMS connects to the LiFePO4 battery via two M8 circular connector cord sets. Once connected, the BMS ensures that the battery is well protected by performing the following functions:

  1. Shut down or disconnect loads in case of imminent cell under voltage: If the BMS detects that any of the individual cells in the battery is underperforming, it will shut down or disconnect the loads to prevent any further damage.

  2. Reduce charge current in case of imminent cell overvoltage or overtemperature (VE.Bus products only, see below): In case of overvoltage or overtemperature, the VE.Bus BMS will automatically reduce the charge current to prevent any further damage.

  3. Shut down or disconnect battery chargers in case of imminent cell overvoltage or overtemperature: If the BMS detects that the battery is overheating or overcharging, it will shut down or disconnect the battery chargers to prevent any further damage.
