Product Details

The Victron Temperature Sensor is an optional accessory for the BMV-702 and BMV-712 battery monitors. When used via the auxiliary input set to “TEMP”, it enables the monitor to read battery temperature. This allows automatic adjustment of displayed battery capacity and aids in more accurate state of charge readings. The sensor enhances battery health by allowing charging or monitoring behaviour to adapt based on battery temperature.

Key Features

  • Enables battery temperature monitoring for BMV-702 and BMV-712
  • Auxiliary input can be configured to “TEMP” so the monitor displays temperature in °C or °F
  • Uses a dedicated temperature sensor cable (part no: ASS000100000) sold separately
  • Helps adjust capacity readouts based on temperature, especially below 20 °C
  • Improves battery performance by compensating for temperature effects

Applications

  • Solar battery systems using BMV-702 or BMV-712 monitors
  • Marine and RV battery setups where temperature varies widely
  • Off-grid installations in hot or cold environments
  • Any system where battery capacity or charging behaviour depends on temperature
Product Specifications

Core Specifications

  • Victron Part Number: ASS000100000
  • Primary Function: Measures battery temperature and provides power/voltage sensing to the connected battery monitor.
  • VRM Integration: Yes (Temperature data is visible via the Victron Remote Management portal when connected to a GX device).
  • VE.Smart Networking: Supported natively with the BMV-712 Smart.Supported with the BMV-702 when used in conjunction with a VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle.

Compatibility: This sensor is specifically designed for products that support external temperature sensing through their power terminals, including:

  • BMV-702 Battery Monitor
  • BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor
  • SmartShunt
  • VE.Bus Smart Dongle (Used as an external probe connection)

Installation & Cable Management

  • Shortening Cables: The cable length may be shortened without any negative impact on performance.
  • Extending Cables: Extending the cable is generally discouraged and unsupported. If an extension is necessary, the additional length must be kept short and the conductor cross-section must be sufficient.
  • Accuracy Note: A significant increase in cable resistance (caused by excessive length or thin wiring) will negatively affect the accuracy of both the temperature reading and the voltage measurement.
  • Mounting: For the VE.Bus Smart Dongle, this probe can be connected to the external terminals to provide remote battery temperature data instead of using the dongle's internal sensor.
